Welcome,
I’m happy that you’ve stopped by and with this first post, I hope to share what’s to come. There are plenty of wonderful Instagram accounts demonstrating fitness routines or eye-catching meals, and I don’t discredit them. I also don’t plan on reinventing the wheel. These accounts have their place and I follow many of them myself. They offer a platform for accountability and support. They offer structured fitness routines or diet tips for individuals to follow. But, and this is a big but, they often advertise unrealistic expectations and emphasize the end game. The 8-pack or a toned physique. The problem with this approach is that health is not a linear journey with an end point, and wellness is so much more than the single component of physical appearance or weight.
As a physician and former personal trainer, I want to share my own experience and knowledge supplemented by evidence-based research. What does the literature say about the current fad diet, a vegan lifestyle, or counting macros? These are the questions I hope to address. In doing so, I also aim to bring my day-to-day experience with health to the forefront, and let me tell you, it’s messy and imperfect many days. As a resident physician life is busy (understatement of the year). I must actively choose to prioritize my health, and I challenge you to do the same.
I look forward to sharing with you posts that are more research-driven in the near future. Thank you for joining me on this journey, a prescription to move (Rx2Move).
Embrace movement,
Stacey Schley, MD
